Salomon Chiquiar-Rabinovich Quoted in El Periodico de Mexico
“Interest of companies in the US for a solution to the immigration issue"
A news article ("Interest of companies in the US for a solution to the immigration issue") in the October 19 issue of El Periodico de Mexico following a press conference in conjunction with the ius laboris convention ["straight labor" in Latin, a legal group of two thousand lawyers from 60 countries] and board meeting in Mexico City, Salomon Chiquiar-Rabinovich of Seyfarth Shaw and colleagues from the law firm Basham Ringe y Correa (the ius laboris affiliate in Mexico) presented a comparative analysis of U.S. and Mexico Immigration Laws for business transferees between both countries and addressed how Mexican and U.S. companies need to cope with changing immigration requirements in both neighboring jurisdictions. Salomon stated that many U.S. companies support immigration reform and that conservative estimates in the United States show 10 million illegal aliens which has an important impact in our labor market. He said that there is a strong unmet demand of manual labor in the agricultural field, but there is a deficit of professionals in the high tech and biotech sectors. Salomon explained that the annual fiscal year quota of 65,000 work visas for professionals that the United States government grants is exhausted quickly because of demand for manual labor and workers in the hospitality sector. He commented that construction of the border wall [between the U.S. and Mexico] is only a measure designed to curve illegal immigration, but, in his opinion, it responds to the climate of heightened national security forced on the U.S. by the real risk of terrorist attacks.
Salomon was also quoted in the October 20 business section of Excelsior and featured on television (Canal 11 - Once Noticias) and radio (Imagen- Negocios - Pedro Ferris).
