San Francisco’s Laura Maechtlen Featured in Boston University’s BU Today
“LGBT Voices: Becoming Myself”
Labor and Employment partner Laura Maechtlen was profiled October 28 by BU Today, the news and information website of Boston University. The feature focused on BU’s LGBT community with many faculty and staff sharing their stories on living openly gay.
Laura, a graduate of Boston University School of Law, is quoted as saying that for her coming out was more of a process than an event. She told BU Today that it wasn’t until she started practicing law in San Francisco—where there are many LGBT judges, city council members, and state legislators—that she felt at home.
“It’s okay to have certain feelings and not know exactly what they mean and not have a definition for yourself,” said Laura, a past president of the National LGBT Bar Association. “It’s important to know that there’s an amazing network of people out there willing to reach out and help if you need it.”
