Seyfarth Shaw’s Hong Kong office is hosting the presentation, “Equality in Employment: Discrimination Law Update,” for the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Hong Kong on 29 August, 2018.

Hong Kong tends to trail behind other jurisdictions on topics of individual equality in the workplace, but the landscape is changing in light of recent high profile cases such as QT v Director of Immigration and Leung Chun Kwong v Secretary for the Civil Service which aim to challenge the status of “marriage” for same-sex couples as it relates to workplace policies such as visas and benefits.

These cases come at critical time on the topic of human rights in particular with the pending appeal hearing on ZN v Secretary of Justice and the introduction of the Modern Slavery Bill. What are the implications if the legislation is passed? What can we learn from other jurisdictions?
