Seyfarth Shaw Lawyers Named to the Daily Journal’s “Top Labor & Employment Attorneys” List

LOS ANGELES (July 25, 2011) — Leading law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP is pleased to announce three of the firm’s Los Angeles office partners, Darren Gardner, Kenneth Sulzer and Angelo Paparelli, have been selected to the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal “Top Labor & Employment Attorneys List,” which honors 75 leading Labor & Employment attorneys in the state of California.

The lawyers were chosen by the editorial staff of the Daily Journal, and the list was published in a special issue of the publication. Those named were honored at a reception held in Los Angeles on July 12.

With more than 10 years of experience and a leading lawyer in international employment work with projects in approximately 145 countries, Darren Gardner specializes in assisting multinational clients with large and complex multi-jurisdictional transactional compliance and strategic human resources projects and cross-border employment-related matters. He serves as Chair of Seyfarth Shaw’s International Practice, leading a team of one of the world’s largest international employment practices advising U.S.-based multinational companies affected by employment law issues outside the U.S.

Gardner was noted by the Daily Journal for designing a global date protection compliance program for a multinational technology company and for devising and helping implement a global strategy for another major tech company, enabling it to collect, use, move and retain information of nearly 90,000 employees.

Chair of Seyfarth’s approximately 130-lawyer California Labor & Employment practice, Kenneth Sulzer represents management in the area of labor and employment law and litigation with a particular emphasis in class actions involving wage and hour matters, Fair Labor Standards Act, California Labor Code and Equal Employment Opportunity matters. His experience in the area of traditional labor relations law includes extensive handling of National Labor Relations Board cases, U.S. Department of Labor investigations, collective bargaining and various arbitration matters.

Deemed a “class-action and employment defense veteran,” the Daily Journal praised Sulzer for using “innovative strategies to protect his clients’ bottom line, both inside and outside the courtroom.” He was noted for developing a plan to employ recent college graduates to work as “class-action clerks” at the height of the recession in 2008, effectively cutting costs for firm clients and offering opportunities for otherwise unemployed grads.

Angelo Paparelli, a Certified Immigration Law Specialist in California and partner in the firm’s Business Immigration Practice, represents companies and individuals in a variety of cases including those involving government audits and investigations, family-based immigration, white-collar immigration, asylum and removal defense, among others.

Paparelli was noted for providing innovative solutions to complex immigration law problems, with special attention to those involving mergers and acquisitions. The Daily Journal also recognized him for co-founding the Alliance of Business Immigration Lawyers, posting a public policy blog, and representation of a human trafficking victim who would now like to work for U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement.
