An excerpt from Seyfarth Shaw's 2010 California Peculiarities book was featured in the April 5, 2010 Daily Journal article, "Quick Guide to California's Labor Laws.” According to the article, the firm recently published its updated publication on the peculiarities of California employment law, which was authored by David Kadue, an employment partner in the Los Angeles office. The article notes that when "employers across the country face a labor law issue on the Left Coast, they often hear, 'California is different.' California is different. Its legislature and judiciary have expanded employee rights (and employer obligations), while complicating wage and hour laws. Contributing to these trends have been federal courts interpreting California law, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals—the nation's most plaintiff-friendly circuit." The article provided various excerpts from the book, highlighting some areas in which California deviates from federal law and from the law in many sister states, such as leaves and disability discrimination.
