Seyfarth to Host Healthcare Summit in Texas with Key Industry Leaders and State Officials

HOUSTON (November 4, 2013) – Seyfarth Shaw will host a Healthcare Workforce Summit on November 22 in Houston, welcoming a number of the state’s top healthcare leaders who will address the current transformation of the healthcare industry and the implications for today’s workforce in Texas.

The summit will begin with separate addresses from Steve Murdock, Ph.D., the founding Director of the Hobby Center for the Study of Texas at Rice University, and Kenneth Shine, M.D., special advisor to the  chancellor to The University of Texas System.

Dr. Murdock will discuss the demographic picture of the current healthcare needs of Texans, as well as the predicted healthcare sector workforce supply and demand concerns as a result of healthcare reform. Dr. Shine will highlight the different strategies being implemented to address the imbalance that exists between provider supply and patient demand. 

Following their respective addresses, both will join in a panel discussion with State Representative Dr. John Zerwas (R), David Lopez, president and CEO of Harris Health System, and Bernie Duco, Chief Legal Officer of Memorial Hermann Health System, for a discussion regarding how local and State healthcare providers are preparing for this shift in the healthcare landscape and anticipated shortage of providers in the wake of healthcare reform and dwindling federal funds.
