About the Program

On April 4, 2022, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court adopted an extremely stringent interpretation of the Wage Act that mandates treble damages for all late payments of wages in the Bay State, including those resulting from honest mistakes and errors that are promptly fixed. A full summary of the decision with key takeaways for Massachusetts employers can be found here.

Join us for a micro webinar where Seyfarth’s Boston Wage and Hour attorneys discuss practical takeaways and considerations employers in Massachusetts should be aware of in light of this decision.

Specific topics covered will include:

  • How employers should revamp payroll systems to operate in a zero-margin-for-error environment
  • How to deal with the settlement of disputed wages claims in the face of automatic multiple damages
  • The potential retroactive effect of the ruling to create liability based on payments that have already been made

Speakers

Barry J. Miller, Partner, Seyfarth Shaw LLP
Molly C. Mooney, Associate, Seyfarth Shaw LLP
