LOS ANGELES (July 19, 2012) — Leading law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today that Los Angeles office partners Jon Meer and Angelo Paparelli have been named to the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal’s annual List of Top Labor & Employment Attorneys, which honors 75 leading Labor & Employment attorneys in California.
Honorees were selected by the editorial staff of the Daily Journal, and the list was published in a special issue of the publication. Those named were honored at a reception held in Los Angeles on July 17.
Jon Meer has extensive experience representing global clients in class action and collective action lawsuits, and he has counseled employers in all areas of wage and hour class action and collective action litigation. Meer was highlighted by the Daily Journal for “putting himself in the shoes” of plaintiffs to determine whether or not they had a valid case. “The only way to test that is to really see what the employees are doing…,” he told the publication.
As part of one case, Meer spent a shift at a client’s store to witness whether the plaintiffs’ claims that they were not being properly paid for time at the end of their shifts during a mandatory check of their bags was valid. When he observed that the process took no longer than a few seconds, he convinced plaintiffs’ counsel to drop its nationwide class-action claims.
For the second consecutive year, Seyfarth Immigration partner Angelo Paparelli, was named to the Daily Journal’s Top Labor & Employment Attorneys list. Paparelli’s practice includes compliance audits, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, visa, asylum and removal defense and legislative advocacy. He is also a founder of the Alliance of Business Immigration Lawyers and recently helped publish the book, Green Card Stories.
Paparelli told the Daily Journal that his mission is to “help American people see that the cornerstone of our exceptionalism is our willingness to accept immigrants as equal human beings and allow them to contribute and become citizens and achieve the American dream while they help us to achieve the American dream.” He cautioned, however, that, “we need to protect the borders and make sure we have intelligent policies in place that let the right people in and keep the wrong people out.”
