Daily Journal (California) selected partners Christine Kim, Stacy Paek, and Timothy Sullivan for its annual Top Real Estate and Development Lawyers list, which spotlights California's leading lawyers handling real estate transactions and litigation.

The publication highlighted Kim’s work advising institutional investors, lenders, and asset managers on complex commercial real estate transactions and financings. Over the past several years, Kim has overseen portfolios representing several billion dollars in transaction value, with recent matters including multi-property financings, adaptive reuse projects, and more than $1 billion in aggregate transactions for a California institutional client.

“I’ve found that the best approach is to stay flexible, keep communication open and focus on understanding what is most important to each party. That helps create practical solutions and keep complex transactions moving forward.”

Paek’s profile showcases her work guiding institutional clients through complex transactions amid shifting market conditions, including financings, acquisitions, restructurings, workouts, and portfolio transactions. Her recent matters include portfolio transactions exceeding $1.8 billion and a series of lender-side transactions totaling more than $1 billion across industrial, multifamily, medical office, and hospitality assets.

“In those situations, the goal isn’t simply to close a transaction; it’s to understand how the asset, capital structure and business plan fit together.”

The publication recognized Sullivan’s work advising investors and property owners on acquisitions, dispositions, financings, joint ventures, and portfolio transactions nationwide. Recent matters include serving as lead counsel on the nearly $900 million sale of a 20-building medical office portfolio spanning seven states, as well as acquisitions and financings involving logistics and distribution facilities across the country.

“The biggest lesson I learned is that for real estate transactions clients aren’t looking for a memo that explains every possible risk. They’re looking for ‘doers’ with practical advice that helps them accomplish their business objectives in a timely fashion as the old real estate adage is ‘time kills all deals.’”
