“Don’t Have Unknowns in EEO-1 Report Data”

Valerie Hoffman was quoted in the August 27, 2010, SHRM Online article, “Don’t Have Unknowns in EEO-1 Report Data.” The article discussed the approaching September 30, 2010, deadline for completing EEO-1 Report forms, which require employers to have accurate data on race, ethnicity and gender of their employees in addition to correct classification.

According to the article,  if an employee did not self-identify when they were hired, the employer should ask the employee’s managers to make a determination based on a visual survey. Val noted that managers are often uncomfortable when they are asked to visually identify a worker's race or ethnicity. She explains that it helps when employers inform managers that visual identification is required by the law if employees do not self-identify.
