Chicago Litigation Department Attorneys Achieve Five Pro Bono Successes in Less Than Three Weeks

CHICAGO (August 11, 2011) — Lawyers from Seyfarth Shaw LLP’s Chicago office Litigation Department achieved success in five diverse pro bono matters between July 7 and July 26.

Scott Schaefers began the firm’s winning streak when he obtained a dismissal of an unfounded tort action against Seyfarth’s long-time client Streetwise, an organization which helps the homeless equip themselves to become independent contractor salespeople.

Jordan Vick, with guidance from Labor & Employment partner Erin Foley, obtained dismissal of an employment discrimination suit filed by a former employee of Seyfarth client, Legal Assistance Foundation, which provides high-quality civil legal services to low-income and disadvantaged people and communities through advocacy, education, collaboration and litigation.

Continuing the firm’s momentum, Elizabeth Ralph and Andrea Okun achieved an incredibly favorable settlement on behalf of a disabled client in a fair housing case, and then Seyfarth lawyers succeeded twice more in cases for clients who filed petitions for executive clemency in 2006. The petitions were filed by Molly Joyce, then an associate and now a partner at Seyfarth Shaw, and the other by Kavitha Janardhan, then a summer associate and now an associate at the firm, with Amanda Sonneborn, then a Labor & Employment associate and now a partner.
