More About Erin

Attracting, retaining, and managing the performance of employees presents unique and often demanding challenges to employers. Erin provides her clients with proactive and practical advice on how to navigate these challenges. She is also a seasoned employment defense trial lawyer who understands the importance of preparation and partnership with her clients to achieve the right outcome for the situation and the client.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Erin obtained a masters degree in human resources, and spent several years as the HR manager for two divisions of an international manufacturing and distribution company, during which she experienced almost every type of HR challenge. These experiences allow Erin to understand her clients' operational and real-world concerns when helping them resolve workplace issues.

For the past two decades, Erin has helped employers through the life cycle of an employee—from onboarding, coaching and training, and performance management, to exit strategy. Because preventative measures do not always go as planned, Erin also understands the importance of a strong litigation strategy and helping craft a defense that both meets the employer's business needs, and provides peace of mind to managers and executives.

There is no one way to resolve workplace issues. Understanding what success looks like to each client is an important part of Erin's development of the client relationship. She takes the time to get to know her clients, to understand what their risk tolerances are, and what the legal or HR professionals need to be successful partners to their constituents. Erin then delivers those tailored and meaningful responses designed to bring about the right resolution to that client's specific needs or circumstances.

As a result of her approach, Erin has achieved impressive results for her clients, including:

  • A complete defense verdict in a federal jury trial (2019) on a race and gender discrimination claim.
  • A jury award of less than $15,000, when the plaintiff's pre-trial demand was more than $1 million (2014) on a breach of contract action.
  • A complete defense verdict in a federal jury trial on a sexual harassment and retaliation claim.

For more than a decade with Seyfarth, Erin has worked hard to get to know a vast array of attorneys and professionals with extensive knowledge on labor and employment matters. She feels privileged to work with these individuals every day, and also enjoys working with leading subject matter experts outside of the L&E space, and outside of the Chicago office. Erin has developed strong personal ties with attorneys in almost every Seyfarth office, so she knows who to call when a client has a jurisdiction-specific query or a question outside of the L&E field. If Erin does not know an answer to a client's inquiry, she loves being able to tell that person, "Hold on ... give me 10 minutes to find the right person to answer your question," and then being able to deliver on that promise.
