Firm continues to expand its core practice with high-profile addition

New York/Washington DC (April 4, 2011) —Seyfarth Shaw LLP is pleased to announce that Marshall Babson has joined the firm as a partner in its New York and Washington offices. Babson, a highly-regarded labor relations lawyer, served on the National Labor Relations Board during the Reagan administration. He comes to Seyfarth from Hughes Hubbard & Reed.

Babson counsels clients in all areas of labor relations, and represents them in litigation and arbitration matters. He has handled numerous proceedings before the NLRB and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He also has extensive experience with Title IV and employment-at-will litigation; wage and hour and OSHA disputes; and negotiating collective bargaining agreements.

“The NLRB continues to expand its aggressive agenda and is putting increased pressure on all employers, who now need to think more strategically than ever before,” said Bradford Livingston, chair of Seyfarth Shaw’s national labor relations practice. “These battles are far from over and in Marshall Babson, we’ve just added one of the top labor practitioners in the country.”

Lorie Almon, co-managing partner of the firm’s New York office said, “The arrival of Marshall Babson, one of the nation’s leading labor lawyers, to the New York office, reaffirms Seyfarth Shaw’s historic commitment to labor relations matters and cements the firm’s reputation as the preeminent labor firm in the country. Seyfarth continues to expand the core practice in New York and nationally by bringing in thought leaders such as Marshall to advise clients on very important matters.”

Babson is a member of the Practice and Procedure Committee of the Labor and Employment Law section of the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the National Chamber Litigation Center of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is a founding Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and one of only 12 lawyers in the country on the National Litigation Center’s Labor Law Advisory Committee.

“The issues and challenges that loom between unions and management are at a critical juncture in U.S. history. Shifting political lines during the last few years with the arrival of the Democratic Administration in 2008, followed by the Republican sweep of the 2010 elections have created new challenges. Corporations need to plan more strategically to achieve efficiencies in a global economy. I am thrilled and gratified to be joining such a well regarded labor and employment firm at this important time in labor law, and look forward to working closely and sharing my knowledge and expertise with such a distinguished group of  practitioners,” said Babson.

Babson received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his JD from Columbia Law School. He is admitted to numerous state bars including California, New York, Connecticut, and Maryland, as well as the District of Columbia. He has been admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court as well as various U.S. Court of Appeals and District Courts.
