Pioneers and Pathfinders: Michael Afar
Today, on Pioneers and Pathfinders, we're joined by Michael Afar, a labor and employment partner in Seyfarth's Los Angeles office, a 40 Under 40 honoree, and one of the minds behind SEYscraper, the winning idea from the firm's inaugural SEYence Fair.
As this year's SEYence Fair drew over a 58% increase in participation over last year, Michael joins us to reflect on his own experience with the competition, from identifying a frustrating, time-consuming litigation problem to developing an idea that ultimately earned recognition from the Financial Times.
At its core, SEYence Fair is about creating a culture where people across Seyfarth are empowered to share ideas, experiment, and rethink how we work. By crowdsourcing ideas from the people closest to the work, the competition helps give promising concepts the momentum to become something bigger.
In our conversation, we also explore how lawyers can use AI and data to solve real problems, why experimentation matters, and how some of the best innovations can come directly from the practitioners closest to the work.
