Session 4: The Effect of US Sanctions Against Russia on Commercial Real Estate Documents

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has impacted all facets of the global economy, including the U.S. real estate industry.  Recent U.S. sanctions against Russia continue to place more individuals on OFAC lists.  Transacting with a party on an OFAC list can lead to criminal or administrative penalties, in addition to possible defaults under real estate documents that could have serious ramifications.  Additionally, FinCEN recently issued two alerts that identify the potential for evasion of sanctions by Russian individuals, which highlights the need for parties to real estate transactions to conduct diligence concerning the identity of a party with which one is transacting.  Join Seyfarth as our interdisciplinary team of legal advisors discuss some of the most pressing issues and recent developments to help guide businesses navigating these challenges and the legal implications.
