Loren Gesinsky was quoted in an April 28 story from Ignites on the news that a former employee in American Funds’ Indiana service center has sued the fund giant, her supervisor and five others for failing to provide “reasonable accommodations” for her mental disabilities, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, as required by the law. Gesinsky said that it’s possible she was seeking accommodations that cut into the essential functions of the job, and therefore were not reasonable. He noted a growing trend of employees requesting a less stressful work environment, but in some workplaces, particularly financial services, that’s not feasible. On the other hand, some accommodations may not be difficult or expensive to meet, such as providing a quieter work area, he added.
